Welcome Neighbourhood Centres!

Well April has been and gone on us, how on earth did that happen? Jen and I have been heads down and bottoms up for the SWADE Project, and have barely managed to stop for a breath!

A recent article in The Senior, a broadsheet style newspaper aimed at seniors in Western Australia has pushed us quicker than we had planned into our service delivery to metro based seniors, with a number of individuals calling from Perth and other outlying areas.

This prompted a quick chat with the wonderful team at Linkwest, and as I was in Perth for a few days, I managed to arrange a session for Neighbourhood Centres at Linkwest and, with the support from the wonderful Linkwest team presented the SWADE project to an enthusiastic group of Neighbourhood Centres, one even popping in from the southern reaches of the metro area via video link.  I even managed to visit Jodi at the Loftus Centre, which was a hive of school holiday activity!

The conversations around the tables with Neighbourhood Centres opened some interesting opportunities for partnerships between CRCS & Neighbourhood Centres in delivering the Be Connected training to Seniors, opportunities such as workshops being timed to allow seniors at the metro centres virtually meet seniors at CRCs, ideas such as developing an e-Pals list for your participants with your sister centres.

In addition to those sessions with Neighbourhood Centres in the metro area, we have seen a few  of our Challenges and Successes sessions with about three or four CRCs so far.  It has been great to hear from the centres who are already engaging their seniors and it is a valuable opportunity to chat about how things are going with your grant applications and any other issues that you may feel you nned to share!  I have just opened up a number of these sessions, which will (at this stage) be held monthly so don't miss out, there are limited seats available at each of those VCs.

Jen and I have also been working on a new set of video opportunities for CRCs and NCs they will be online and bookable through our website. Don't miss your spot!

We are also keen to hear what sort of support you would like from us to help you deliver the Be Connected program and keeping your seniors engaged and enthusiastic about their digital literacy journey with your centre.
