Digital Mentor Training1/3/2021 February has been a busy month for our Be Connected Lead Digital Mentors Natika and Linda. Sessions have been held online and in person! ![]() SWADE NT Last week SWADE Project Officer, Natika Hawes- Wright hosted a session of Digital Mentor training with a difference. A number of folk from random locations had responded to ASCCA’s Online Lesson Schedule expressing an interest in becoming a Digital Mentor. It took a little organising, but after a short wait period, seven Mentors were successfully trained via the remote access of Zoom. ![]() SWADE WA On February 18th, ASCCA Project Officer Linda Beard, delivered free Digital Mentor training at Albany’s CWA Hall to some members of Albany Mens Shed, CWA and Independent Retirees. Also in attendance were Community Resource Centre representatives from Bremer Bay, Denmark, Jerramungup and Walpole. Participants learnt about key Digital Mentor qualities, roles, benefits for engaging learners using the Be Connected resources and grants. The key message being that supporting digital skills is not all about technical knowledge - you don’t need to be a ‘computer expert’. Being a Digital Mentor is more focused on being good with people. You need to have patience, enthusiasm, adaptability and be good at listening. The Four Peak Partnership Project of ASCCA, Linkwest, Men’s Sheds of WA and CWA of WA have been engaging members and friends with free training so they can be a Digital Mentor in their organisations and communities. This training is being delivered at face-to- face sessions and online via Zoom. Funded by the Australian Federal Government, the Be Connected program aims at improving digital skills in older people. As part of the program we are offering FREE training to people interested in becoming Digital Mentors.
