Delivering Remotely1/9/2020 The SWADE team has been busily working through the last few months, with a variety of projects on the boil. Jen and Tik are currently working on no less than six active Be Connected projects for SWADE and have recently been successful in applying for funding for Round 6 Capacity Building projects in the NT and WA. This is thanks to their Telecentre days, where they learned to grasp every opportunity to apply for grants possible! The SWADE Team, under the overall management of Director, Jennifer Willcox now consists of Mark Young - NSW, Ursula Lyons - NT, Natika Hawes-Wright and Linda Beard - WA. A growing team, doing great things! SWADE NT Ursula has been on a road trip to Katherine while Tik has been coaching the Digital Mentors (East Arnhem Library staff) from the February DM training in Darwin, via Video Conference each week since restrictions eased in the NT. She's now starting to see a few learners brave enough to come to the Libraries and talk to the nerd (Tik's words!) on the Library computer screen! September sees the official start for Round 6 projects. In the NT we are seeking out potential new ASCCA Clubs and training more Digital Mentors to facilitate those groups as well as maintaining ASCCA's support for the library staff and their learners in communities in East Arnhem Land. SWADE WA In Western Australia we're excited to be working in partnership with long time Be Connected partner Linkwest, to support two new to Be Connected peak bodies (Men's Sheds WA and the CWA of WA associations) to help them increase digital literacy and confidence among their member sheds and branches throughout the State! This four peak body partnership is a very exciting opportunity for ASCCA and Tik and Jen are looking forward to seeing Men's Sheds and CWA Branches joining ASCCA as a result! To provide more hands on deck, the services of Linda Beard have been secured. Linda, like Jen, hails from Walpole in Western Australia and is an ideal choice for Lead Digital Mentor in supporting Jen and Tik. ![]() SWADE NSW A VIRTUAL TRIP TO NEWCASTLE During August Mark had the pleasure of working with six mentors from Newcastle Club doing the free Digital Mentoring: Helping your community Be Connected course on 10 August 2020. This is the largest group he has worked with so far. Over the last three months he made virtual visits to ASCCA clubs from Camperdown, Eastern Suburbs, Manly and Hunters Hill. Although these meetings were all done using the Zoom video conferencing system, Mark said it is great to interact with such a variety of people who range from new volunteers to people with extensive experience working with seniors. Many have backgrounds in technology, information management and education. All have a strong motivation to help others. He'll soon be sending an email to all ASCCA clubs in NSW that have not yet been contacted that are also Be Connected Network Partners to provide an idea of what the free Digital Mentoring course involves and offer to run it for their trainers using Zoom. If you are not sure if your club is a Be Connected Network Partner, check the map on this page:https://beconnected.esafety.gov.au/find-local- help. If you’d like more information, contact Mark on: markyoung@ascca.org.au
